The 11th-ranked Murray rallied to defeat David Ferrer 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in a dramatic finish.

The Scot lost a 2-0 lead in the deciding set but won four successive games from 5-3 down, ending the match with his ninth ace.

"That was very tough physically. A lot of long points and, yes, ideally, you want to keep the matches as short as possible but that's very difficult against David because of how good he is and how fast he is and I'll need some quick matches if I want to get through the next couple of weeks."

The win boosts his chances of making the cut for the prestigious season ending World Tour Finals in London next month.
