Ivo Karlović and Philipp Kohlschreiber progress to the last 16 of the Austrian Open.

    Script:

Ivo Karlovic of Croatia reached his sixth quarter-final of the season after beating two-time former champion and home favourite Jurgen Melzer 6-4 7-6 at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on Wednesday.

Sixth seed Karlovic served 21 aces and his Austrian opponent was treated for dizziness in the opening set.

Karlovic next plays either top seed David Ferrer or Tobias Kamke of Germany.

Also in action was Philipp Kohlschreiber, who made a winning return from injury in a defeat of Carlos Berlocq 3-6 6-1 6-4.

Fourth seed Kohlschreiber had a bye in the first round and is back on court after suffering a right shoulder injury last month.

Kohlschreiber will next play either fellow German Benjamin Becker or last year's finalist Robin Haase of the Netherlands.
