Script:Roger Federer continued his quest for his first Shanghai Masters crown after defeating Julien Benneteau in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Frenchman Benneteau pushed Federer every inch of the way in a first set that needed a tie-break to resolve it. But the Swiss moved up a gear to take it 7-4.
Federer then swept through the second set to seal a 7-6 6-0 success.
The 33-year-old will now face top seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
