SOUNDBITE: (English) Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner:(On players accused of crimes being entitled to due process).

"They (NFL owners) obviously understand the balance between due process and protecting the integrity of the game, and sometimes that puts you in a difficult position. When there is strong evidence to the fact that a violation occurred, the question is whether there should be some type of interim step, like a paid leave. And allow the individual to focus on the legal issues, the legal challenges, the family, whatever the issues may be and allow the team to continue to focus on football."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner:(On acknowledging his mistakes in the Ray Rice case with the owners).

"I was very open with them about where we failed in the process. I've been very open with all of you and I've been very open publicly about where we made mistakes. What we've done to correct them, to make sure that they don't happen again frankly was a very open dialogue about that from my perspective. I was very honest and open with them and there wasn't a lot of discussion following that. We went immediately into other aspects of what we're trying to do in this area to make sure we have the right policy in place. To do the right kind of things to make sure we come to the right conclusions going forward. It's my job obviously to admit mistakes but more importantly it's my job to go and figure out how we're not going to have those mistakes occur again."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner:(On expected timeline to a change the league's domestic abuse policy).

"We're working consistently on this, non-stop on this, we continue our meetings with experts, people who can give us perspective, whether they're in the military, within law enforcement, former players, the union. We'll have another meeting with the union next week. So, we're continuing our work with the intention to do this as quickly as possible. But most importantly, we want to make sure it's thorough, it's right. We won't let better get in the way of perfect, but we certainly want to make sure that we get the right kind of policy in place as quickly as possible."
