"We are looking for cities and charming cities like Azerbaijan, to be able to have a race in the streets," 83 year-old Ecclestone said. "This is something that started in Monte Carlo, Oh I can't remember how many years ago. Probably before I was born. And there's not many things happened before I was born but anyway, this is just a charming city. The people were nice enough to say, 'we are prepared to do this' and that's the reason and I am very very very happy. That's what happened."

"We normally try to have a seven year contract," he said. "But in this case, it's something that's going to be quite an experience, so we thought we would do that little bit longer. But as far as I'm concerned, the race can stay here as long as Formula One has existed."

"We are doing a speed calculation, that means, we know the speed of the cars at every point of the track," Tilke said. "And from this, we calculate what happens when a car will spin or have a problem, how far it will 'fly' lets say and then after this we make the so called run off areas. This is shown where nothing is inside. And then we also calculate the height of the fences for the security of the spectators."
