  • Intro:

The USA's Stacy Lewis held a one-shot lead after the first round of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday (9 October).

    Script:

The LPGA Tour moved to Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club for the first round of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.

Feng Shanshan had one of the shots of the day with her approach on the par-four fourth that led to a birdie.

The Chinese star ended with a four-under 67.

It was a difficult opening round for defending champion Lexi Thompson who missed her par putt on nine, and the easy tap-in to follow, for a double bogey.

But the American began to recover on the back nine, picking up a birdie on sixteen en route to an even-par 71.

Lydia Ko is four strokes behind the early leader after a two-under 69.

This birdie on number six was one of the few bright spots, meanwhile, for Paula Creamer, who struggled to a four-over 75 on day one.

Na-yeon Choi, So-yeon Ryu, Hee-young Park and Ji Eun-hee - lie in a four-way tie for second place.

    The quartet shot five-under-par 66s.

But the leader after the first round of the LPGA Malaysia is world number one Stacy Lewis.

Lewis edged into a tie at the top of the standings with a birdie on eleven.

The American then grabbed the lead by herself at minus six with a birdie at sixteen, before signing for an impressive 65.
