Reaction after the Cardinals beat the Dodgers

  • Intro:

Post-game reaction after the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 in Game 4 to capture the National League Division Series on Tuesday (7 October) at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English): Don Mattingly, Los Angeles Dodgers Manager:
(On Cardinals success against Clayton Kershaw).

"He has the one inning and then he's pitching really good through major parts of the game in L.A. (Los Angeles). And then he has one bad inning. They got a good club. They got guys that are professionals. The more times you get through the order, you get through (Matt) Holliday three times, you're getting into Jonny (Peralta) and (Yadier) Molina and those guys, the third time through the order, it always gets tougher and tougher, because you've got to change your mix. And they've seen you three times. So I don't know if it's necessarily that they have any kind of command over Clayton (Kershaw). I think he's pitched really good against them, other than an inning here or an inning there."

SOUNDBITE (English): Mike Matheny, St. Louis Cardinals Manager:
    (On facing Clayton Kershaw).

"Well we understand the calibre of pitcher he is, and he was great again tonight. And he's obviously being looked at as the Most Valuable Player in our League, and one of the best pitchers there is, period. And I have nothing but respect for him. And I know the guys, as they do have respect for him, they're also realising and it helps to be reminded like we were in L.A. (Los Angeles) that they stay the course, and just continue to fight, you never know when you might land something. And that's what they continued to do, regardless of who it is against, and not giving the opposition too much credit to think that we're out of anything. I think that's something that is a learned trait that these guys have done exceptionally well."

SOUNDBITE (English): Matt Adams, St. Louis Cardinals First Baseman:
    (On his home run).

"Yeah, I don't think I touched the ground the whole way around the bases. And this guy (Shelby Miller) sitting beside me, he kept us in the game. And it just felt good for us to take the lead right there in the seventh (inning)."
