Santorini overrun by Parkour youths

  • Intro:

The Red Bull Art of Motion took over Oia in Santorini on October 5th, 2014.

    Script:

The hillside town of Oia in Santorini is usually a tranquil place to watch the sunset over the Aegean Sea.

But, for one day only, the picturesque, whitewashed buildings attracted parkour performers, rather than tourists.

The free runners took over the local roofs and terraces as they showcased their skills during the Red Bull Art of Motion event.

Competitors had ninety seconds to drop 70 metres, leaving plenty of local residents preparing to get the scuff marks off their walls as soon as the event rolled out of town, not that Greek winner Dimitris Kyrsanidis had that in mind.

SOUNDBITE (English): Dimitris Kyrsanidis, winner, Red Bull Art of Motion 2014

"First of all I am so proud that I represent my country and I pass to the second round. That is all. For the first place? I don't know. I just feel like, like I have not realised it yet. So I really don't know, it comes from inside."

America's Luci Romberg won the women's event as she provided plenty of tips to any burglars wanting to make a quick exit down the town's famous facade.
