The women's semifinals of the WTA China Open featured four past Grand Slam champions on Saturday.

Action started early with two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova hoping to reach her second final in as many weeks as she went up against 2011 U.S. Open winner Samantha Stosur.

Kvitova started well against her opponent as she took the first set 6-3 in 44 minutes and appeared in control and on her way to the final.

However, Stosur refused to throw in the towel and rallied in the second, her serve aiding her significantly as she dropped just four points in six service games.

The Australian managed to secure a break in the 12th game to take the second set 7-5 and force a decider.

But in a match full of surprises, there was another swing in the pedulum as the No. 3-seeded Kvitova bounced back in a big way.

She reeled off five games in a row from 1-2 to close the match out, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, hitting a big ace on her first match point.

Kvitova is a perfect 8-0 in matches since the US Open, going 5-0 to win the Wuhan title and 3-0 so far here in Beijing.

The Czech is now just one win away from returning to world number two in the rankings, a win in Beijing would be enough and see her match her career best ranking to date.
