    There were wins for Gilles Simon of France and Germany's Benjamin Becker in late action at the Tokyo Open in Japan on Wednesday (1st September).

    Script:

    Gilles Simon faced Gilles Muller in the second round of the Japan Open in Tokyo.

    Muller, the world number 58, got his serve going early on and had the Frenchman in trouble after pocketing the first set 6-4 and forcing a tiebreak in the second.

    However, Simon breezed through the breaker 7-1 and dominated the action from then on.

    Simon broke the Muller serve in the third game of the decider and never looked back, closing out a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory in two hours and 22 minutes with another break, hs fourth of the match.

    The world number 37 will next take on Steve Johnson of the United States, after he overcame Spain's Marcel Granollers, the conqueror of second seed David Ferrer, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

    Japanese wild card Tatsuma Ito faced Benjamin Becker of Germany in round two and slumped to a straight sets defeat, 6-3, 6-3 in just 72 minutes.

    Becker faces Jack Sock of the United States in the next round. Sock, beat Andrey Golubev 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
