Two days after saving five match points to win the Shenzhen Open crown, Andy Murray made a slow start against Jerzy Janowicz in the first round of the China Open in Beijing on Tuesday.

The Scot recovered from losing the first set to win 6-7 6-4 6-2.

The 27-year-old goes on to face Pablo Cuevas. Murray is looking for another strong showing this week to boost his bid to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Ernests Gulbis is also through to the next round after enjoying a straight sets victory over Fabio Fognini.

The world number 13 recorded a 6-3 6-4 success and will now play the victor of Martin Kližan versus Leonardo Mayer.

Gulbis is currently 13th in the race for the eight places at November's season-ending ATP Finals.
