2014 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova beat Canadian Eugenie Bouchard to win the inaugural Wuhan Open on Saturday, making it the third title in one year for the Czech. Much like in the Wimbledon final, this was also a straight sets victory for Kvitova, who won 6-3 6-4 to beat Bouchard and secure herself a place in the WTA finals in Singapore.

The 24 year old won the first set 6-3, and broke Bouchard in the first game of the second with a 5-2 lead, but the Canadian fought back and broke back through an advantage point, narrowing the gap to 5-4. But Kvitova managed to save seven of the eight break points facing her, and sealed the win in just the second set 6-4.

SOUNDBITE (English) Petra Kvitova, Wuhan Open champion: (On her victory)

"I played very well. I knew exactly what I have to play, that I have to play a little bit more aggressive than normally I played here. So that's what happened on the court and Eugenie was a very tough opponent today."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Petra Kvitova, Wuhan Open champion: (On qualifying for the WTA finals in Singapore)

"It means a lot. I mean if somebody told me after the first round loss in the Australian Open that I would still be fighting for Singapore I probably would laugh. Now it's true, I'm there, it's great and of course it means a lot. It's only eight players of the year."

The WTA finals in Singapore will take place at the end of October, and Kvitova will be competing alongside Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova, and current world number one Serena Williams.
