Golf's greatest matchplay tournament got underway on Friday morning on the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles Hotel.

The battle between Europe and the USA began with fourballs.

The first match saw America's Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson, tee off against Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson.

Europeans Martin Kaymer and Thomas Bjorn were next up against Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker in the second match.

They were followed by debutant Stephen Gallacher with Ryder Cup ace Ian Poulter

Their opponents were Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth.

The final fourballs contest on Friday saw the world number one - Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia against Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley.
