British Speedgolf: Scott succeeds

Tuesday, September 23 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Action and reaction from the inaugural British Open Speedgolf Championships in East Sussex, England, which was won by George Scott.

    Script:

UPSOUND (English): Dominic Warne (delivering competitor briefing)

"Your score is your combination of your time and the amount of shots it takes to go around and that's where the joy of this concept of golf comes into its own. It's all about the balance - are you going to take on a tricky shot around the corner, over trees, are you going to go for the par five in two or are you going to take three seven irons and a wedge onto the green and just do it quickly."

SOUNDBITE (English): Gary Tuffield, competitor, expert (18-hole) class

"It was great fun. You've got to get your eye in on the tee, every single shot you've got to make sure that your composed, ready to hit the ball. So yeah it really was brilliant fun but it's certainly pretty tiring."

SOUNDBITE (English): George Scott, British Open Speedgolf Champion

"Over the moon to be honest. I didn't expect it, I turned up today thinking I'd give it a go, shoot good golf, play good golf and the run was just adrenaline-fuelled with support from the club, from members, from people there shouting at me saying, 'Run fat boy run', a lot of the time, which is great, because the fun we have at the golf club is great. As you can see I'm not the slightest guy, to push myself I thought it was great fun."
