  • Intro:

PAOK Thessaloniki won 1-0 away to struggling Panetolikos on Monday (22 September), drawing them level with Olympiacos at the top of the Greek Super League table.

    Script:

PAOK visited Panetolikos where they were welcomed by a hostile crowd at the Panetolikou Stadium.

The home side went into the game having secued two points from the their first three games of the season.

They faced an uphill battle from the get go against an in-form PAOK side, and their task was made harder when Giorgos Kousas fouled Robert Mak in the box.

Mak stepped up to take the spot-kick himself and duely converted it, handing the visitors a 1-0 lead after 35 minutes.

PAOK had plenty of chances to double their lead, the best falling to Miguel Vitor in the second half.

Razran Rat crossing into the box to find Vitor in plenty of space, but he somehow managed to hit the crossbar from point blank range.

That error almost proved costly when Panetolikos had a glorious chance to equalise in the dying moments.

A comedy of errors almost leading to the equaliser, only for Giorgos Katsikas to clear the ball off the line and away from danger.

A third straight win for PAOK means they sit top alongside Olympiacos while Panetolikos slip to third from bottom.
