Anderlecht's win yesterday put the pressure on Standard Liège to do the same at Waasland-Beveren on Sunday.

Stand-in captain Laurent Ciman almost steered Standard Liège into the lead with this long-range free-kick. It was an impressive effort for a centre-back.

Beveren's Ibou Sawaneh then had a strong appeal for a penalty waved away by referee Wim Smet after he was clumsily brought down by Martin Milec.

The decision proved costly in the second half when Standard took the lead. Paul-José M'Poku's free-kick was headed in with gusto by Jorge Teixeira. That was the centre-back's first goal for the club after joining from Zurich this summer.

Jeff Louis then played a one-two with ex-Celtic forward Tony Watt before the Haiti international tested Colin Coosemans.

M'Poku's free-kick then curled in off the inside of the post to wrap up a 2-0 win.
