The women's team time trial in the UCI Road World Championships in Spain got underway on Sunday.

Astana BePink picked up the bronze medal as they finished 2min 19sec off the pace.

In second place was Orica-AIS, 1min 17sec behind Specialized-lululemon, who claimed victory for the third year in a row with a dominant performance.

The American squad negotiated the 36.1km course in a time of 43min 33sec and Evelyn Stevens was delighted with the result:

"I am ecstatic. This is the most special event, the team time trial, and this is the third time I have won it with this team. We had a crash yesterday in training and I was in the hospital getting x-rays so we weren't so sure about today, so it was so special to win with these women."

Britain's Lizzie Armitstead helped her Boels-Dolmans team to fifth place.
