Maria Balikoeva fired a second round three-under-par 69 to take the lead at the Tenerife Open.

The Russian carded six birdies and three bogeys to end the day on seven under par.

Amy Boulden, Connie Chen and Kylie Walker all lie one shot behind Balikoeva.

South African Chen will hope to continue her form over the weekend as she seeks her first professional win in Europe.

Walker failed to replicate her first round 67 as she carded 71.

Trish Johnson led overnight after a stunning round of 65 but a disappointing second round of 76 moved her down the leaderboard.

Home favourite Carlota Ciganda and England's Charley Hull are also well placed to mount a charge in the final two days.

Both players lie two shots off the lead on five under par.
