Going into this second round, second leg Copa Sudamericana tie, River Plate held a 1-0 lead over Godoy Cruz.
Cruz sit 14th in the Argentine league, while River lie top.
The 1-0 first league deficit got all the more difficult when River opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Rodrigo Mora getting on the end of this fortuitous bounce to give the home side a 2-0 aggregate lead.
The Uruguayan with his fourth goal in all competitions this season.
If that was fortunate, then the second was just as much. Leonardo Pisculichi with the initial shot & the ball flying directly onto the head of the grateful Mora.
River looked out of sight, yet on the stroke of half time, Ruben Ramirez was inches away from giving Godoy Cruz a glimmer for the second half.
As it was, Godoy lost their cool in the second half following River's Leonel Vangioni on Sergio Velazquez.
Somehow both teams kept 11 on the pitch as the referee showed just a yellow to Vangioni for the challenge.
There was one last chance for River to put a gloss on the game, yet Moyano got a strong hand to Carlos Sanchez's shot.
As a result of the victory River Plate now head into the last 16 of the tournament as they attempt to lift the trophy for the first time.
