Watson: 'Tired' of Europe winning

Friday, September 19 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Tom Watson met with the media on Wednesday (17 September) in Kansas City ahead of next week's Ryder Cup match versus Europe in Scotland.

    Script:

"Normally you go to major championship and you're pulling for one person or another like this. If you got to the Ryder Cup, you're pulling for one team against the other team. And in the Ryder Cup, you hear cheers when people miss putts. You know that's, you don't hear cheers at the Master's when Bubba (Watson) misses a putt."

"Well it's personal because the Europeans have beaten a tattoo on us for seven out of the last nine years and I'm getting pretty tired of that. I want our country to succeed. I want our team to succeed, bring that cup back to these shores."

"They are committed to do everything possible to win one more hole than their opponent in every match and that's the bottom line. That's what I told them. I said all you have to do is win one more hole. They win five, you got to win six holes. They win three, you got to win four holes. And that's, and try keep it simple, keep it simple. It's like baseball, you just got to score one more run than that other team."
