Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City will be expected to improve on their last 16 exit in 2013/14 Champions League.

City trained in Munich on Tuesday evening ahead of their first group fixture with Bayern Munich.

Drawn in Group E alongside CSKA Moscow and AS Roma, Bayern will likely pose the biggest challenge to the English Champions' chances of progressing.

The two sides also faced each other in the group stages of the tournament last season, with Bayern winning in Manchester while City produced a superb comeback in Munich to snatch a 3-2 win.

The Germans topped the group on goal difference, resulting in City facing and going out to Barcelona in the last 16.

With two English Premier League titles in the last three seasons, Pellegrini knows their progress in Europe must improve & centrally to that will be finishing top of a difficult looking group.

One player who knows all about Champions League football is new signing Frank Lampard.

The midfielder won the title with Chelsea in 2012, here in Munich.

Wednesday's match will see Manuel Pellegrini serve the first game of his two-match ban after criticising the referee back in February when his side lost to Barcelona.
