    Script:

The AFC Under-16 Championship quarterfinals kicked off Sunday with South Korea taking on rivals Japan in Bangkok.

Japan were the better side early on, yet South Korea struck in the 42nd minute after quick feet from Kim Jung-min setup Lee Seung-woo. Giving the Koreans a 1-0 lead at half time.

If Lee Seung-woo needed the help of his teammate for the first, the second was anything but. The striker putting his side two up after 47 minutes.

The South Koreans move on to face the winner of the Uzbekistan v Syria semifinal.

While on the other side of the draw, Iran or North Korea would face Australia in the semi-finals.

With the winners of all four quarter finals guaranteed a spot in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, much was at stake for both teams.

Iran's best chance in the first half fell to their striker Reza Karimi, yet the striker was brilliantly denied by the Koreans.

North Korea came close in the second half with Han Kwang Song's shot.

With both teams failing to break the deadlock, the game went straight to penalties.

North Korea took the first kick with Han Kwang Song's strike.

Reza Karimi made it 2-2 with this effort..

Then with North Korea leading 3-2, Nima Daghestani sent his left footer wide of the goal.

Reza Shekhari knew he had to score to force another from North Korea.

The 4-2 penalty win means North Korea now play Australia in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
