The second edition of the IAAF Continental Cup came to a thrilling climax at Le Grand Stade in Marrakech on Sunday.

Having recently won the Diamond Race, Dawn Harper Nelson of the Americas lined up as the big favourite in the 100m hurdles.

European champion Tiffany Porter pushed her all the way, but the 2008 Olympic champion had the edge at the end.

And it was a one-two for the Americas in the men's 200m as Alonso Edward and Rasheed Dwyer took the maximum points, both going below 20 seconds as they crossed the line.

Dutch athlete Dafne Schippers lost her world lead to Allyson Felix at the IAAF Diamond League final nine days ago, but made a flying finish to her breakthrough season, powering away from the field off the bend and winning in a decisive 22.28 seconds.

Ihab Abdelrahman El Sayed, representing Africa, made history by becoming the first non-European winner of the men's javelin at the World or Continental Cup.

He led from the outset, opening with 81.77m.

With victory in half of the day's 20 events, Europe retained the Continental Cup by a comfortable margin.

Americas finished second with 390 points with Africa third (339) and Asia-Pacific some way back in fourth (257.5).
