Omega Pharma-QuickStep's Michal Kwiatkowski claims Tour of Britain race lead, following a stunning sprint-to-the-line victory at the end of stage four in Bristol, England on Wednesday (10th September).

    Script:

Day four of the Tour of Britain took the riders from Worcester to Bristol; a distance of 184.6 kilometres. Edoardo Zardini held the yellow jersey at the start of the day.

In the opening kilometres, Movistar rider Alex Dowsett was amongst the day's six-man early breakout group, but a double puncture saw him fall back to the peloton.

The real action came inside the final 30 kilometres when Holland's Albert Timmer, who had been in the day's break alongside Dowsett, tried to accelerate up Bridge Valley Road following the peloton's passage through the Avon Gorge.

First Jack Bauer bridged the gap to Timmer and it appeared the two would contend for the stage win, but then Kwiatkowski and three others accelerated towards them.

The Pole had enough energy to power past Bauer and Timmer to take a memorable victory in a sprint finish in Bristol.

Belgium's Dylan Teuns was third on the day.

The time bonus which accompanied the win allows Kwiatkowski to move three seconds ahead of stage three winner Edoardo Zardini in the overall standings to take the leaser's yellow jersey.

Defending champion Sir Bradley Wiggins is sixth, 27 seconds adrift.
