Defending KLM Open champion Joost Luiten, who beat Miguel Angel Jimenez in a playoff last year, said on Wednesday (10th September) that he had "nothing to lose" as he looks to retain his title in front of his home crowd.
Jimenez meanwhile wants to "at least repeat the performance of last year" and Thomas Bjorn revealed he was using the tournament to "be as competitive as I can be" for the upcoming Ryder Cup.

"It's very special to be here in Holland and defending your own tournament basically. When I went back after the last year, I went back to here to do a little bit for TV and it was very emotional, so it was good to get that out of the way for this week. You know hopefully I can show the people again what I did last year, but it is going to be a tough year I think for me, because the expectations of all the people is different this year and that's what you have to deal with, but I have nothing to lose."

"I won here in 1994 yeah and played several times, the last three years I played again this Open. It's very nice, especially here last year I finished in second place, lost in a playoff with Joost Luiten and here we are back again, trying to at least repeat the performance of last year."

"It's all about being competitive and that's why I needed a few weeks of tournament golf really, to get myself into that frame of mind and my mind is set on what happens in a few weeks time and for me it's a build up to that and try and be as competitive as I can be when we come to that."
