    Script:

The final stage of the Tour of Alberta got underway in Edmonton, Canada, on Sunday

The road surfaces were hazardous and several riders were caught out by potholes.

Giant-Shimano's Tom Dumoulin had been in the lead since the opening prologue but Daryl Impey of Orica-Greenedge broke away from the peloton to win by just one second.

The South African was delighted to edge Dutchman Dumoulin for the title:

SOUNDBITE (English) Daryl Impey, South Africa (asked how it feels to have won on his first race back after being cleared of a doping charge):

"It feels super. I think also motivated, you know, coming back, I really trained hard when I was off and you know, to pay back your team for all the faith they had in me and the guys rode so well today, it was... out of that last corner, it was nearly impossible to lose. Everybody stuck to the plan and... we knew it was always going to be a gamble. We put everything in on the finish and, yeah, just stoked."

Champion Impey was riding in his first race since being cleared of a doping charge.
