Script:
The men's final of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup began in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, on Sunday.
Olympic champion Maris Strombergs reached the turn out in front but Britain's Liam Phillips was closing all the way to the finish line.
The Latvian needed a photo finish to prevail ahead of the 25-year-old.
There is some consolation for Phillips, though, as he still heads the overall standings.
The women's showpiece was dominated by Mariana Pajon.
The Colombian led from start to finish to take victory by a sizeable margin.
Alice Post of the US finished second as Australia's Melinda McLeod came home in third.
McLeod's compatriot Caroline Buchanan retains the overall lead despite a seventh place finish in Argentina.
The final round of the BMX Supercross World Cup series will be held at Chula Vista, America, later this month.
