  • Intro:

A bizarre sporting craze is sweeping Germany - it's called Headis and it's similar to playing table tennis with your head.

    Script:

It has to be one of the most bizarre sporting crazes you will ever see.

It's called Headis and it's gaining popularity in Germany.

It was invented by sports science student Rene Wegner who obviously didn't have a lot going through his head at the time.

"I invented Headis because I was bored in a pool with my friends, we were just hanging out. We couldn't play soccer so that was the next best thing to do and it turned out pretty good."

Almost 10 years later, the sport has been embraced by the University of Saarbruecken.

In 2008 it was included in their sports programme.

Now there are ten headline grabbing tournaments per year.

This is just one of them.

The players are allowed to enter using their nicknames.

    Meet Oli the Slaughterer.

" I always screamed at myself, at other people, kicked the table, threw the table around, that kind of stuff, because I was angry and mad most of the time when I play it."

" the best of the best are here, we are having fun and playing it. All together Dj's while we play, aftershow party and we are enjoying the nice day and the beautiful time here."

The next tournament on the Headis Cup calendar is on the 4th of October.
