"The golf course [Gleneagles] is very much designed for the player that can smash it over bunkers, a lot of holes with driver, there are going to be a lot of birdies being made, a lot of drivable par fours, reachable par 5's so there's an advantage there for somebody that can hit it high and far. We've got a lot of those players on this American team. So I think this is a very strong team from top to bottom and the other two picks are going to compliment everybody a lot.'

SOUNDBITE: (English) Hunter Mahan:

"Obviously a huge timely win [at the Barclays]. The game is coming around. I felt pretty good from the British on and played well at Bridgestone and played well at the PGA. So I felt things were right there for some reason going into Ridgewood - I had this calm over me. I had this great confidence. I felt fantastic about my game, I felt rested and went out there and played well. Obviously that was a massive -- for my Fed Ex points and for making the Ryder Cup team. And if I didn't win there I would have had to play extremely well last week to be a part of this team. Winning is everything in golf and I couldn't have had a bigger tournament at the right time."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Webb Simpson,

"You know it was a week I'll never forget [the 2012 Ryder Cup]. I felt like our team was playing well all week. It was one of those weeks where it felt like we were going to win. All the guys were playing so well. It was kind of a shock Sunday afternoon. I'll never forget the feeling watching the other team celebrate. They were all smiles, laughter and having fun. We had our heads down and it wasn't a good feeling. So..."
