SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul McGinley, European captain

"It says a lot about the European Tour and the standards we have now in Europe, the quality of picks that I have and how far we've come over the years for me to have such an abundance of talent to choose from. So with no future adieu, the three picks that I have chosen to compliment the nine players that are already in place. Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Victor Dubuisson, Jamie Donaldson, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Bjorn and Graeme McDowell will be joined by Stephen Gallacher, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul McGinley, European captain (Q: What are your initial thoughts after your wildcard selection?)

"A very lucky man for a start, to have such a variety of talent to choose from. There are some real quality players, who are performing incredibly well who are not going to make the team and it was a very difficult call to those guys involved. But on the positive side I think we have three players that will add a lot to the nine already qualified and make the European team as strong as it needs to be to take on the might of America."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul McGinley, European captain (Q: What did Stephen Gallacher say to you when you phoned him and is there any concern including a rookie?)

"His first words were 'that's brilliant wee man'. Of course it's a concern that he's a rookie and it's very difficult to pick a rookie in a Ryder Cup, but I've said all along from day one I'm not afraid to pick a rookie if he proves himself and there is no doubt that Stevie Gallacher has proved himself and earned his spot on this team. He was up against it, as a rookie you've got to do a little bit more to earn a pick and I think Stevie did a little bit more, more than a little bit more. His performance last week in particular had a huge effect on me."
