Sharma out of ODI England series

Saturday, August 30 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

India opener Rohit Sharma will miss the rest of the one-day international series against England because of a broken finger.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Friday that Murali Vijay has been called up as Sharma's replacement.

Rohit hurt his right middle finger while fielding in India's 133-run victory over England in Cardiff two days ago.

Vijay, who opened throughout India's Test campaign this summer, is to return to the tour as soon as possible as Rohit's replacement for the rest of the five-match one-day international series and then a one-off Twenty20.

India lead 1-0 after two matches, with the third ODI taking place at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

"Yeah, it is very good to be honest. I think the contest between India-England is always challenging. I think we have done well in the last game. So mostly in the dressing room, very positive. And everyone is looking forward to the next three games. But still we need to achieve a lot of goals, what we have decided in team meeting. So hopefully we will do well in the next upcoming games."

"It was good. I think (unclear) has been very kind. I love batting against England. I have done it in the past when I played my first game against them in Faridabad (in March 2006) - I got my first man-of-the-match. So I have lot to learn, a lot to be achieved. At the same time, I am looking at the next game. So I am batting well at the moment, I just want to continue my good form."

"No, I work hard, I work hard. It has been ten years now. So that has become my strong point. But at the same time, I have been learning a lot with Duncan, with a lot of other players. So I think it is more important for me to just be in the present. What you have to do in the present is be there all the time. So still I think we have three more games to go and have done so much hard work in the last couple of months. I still have a lot of work to do for my team India. So I am looking forward to the next three games."

"Definitely I think opening in England is always a difficult job, but unfortunately Rohit (Sharma) has got injured. Still we have a lot of youngsters. Sanju Samson is there; then we have Ambati Rayudu, and we have (Murali) Vijay coming also. He is a Test specialist, but he has done well in one-dayers and IPL. So hopefully we looking to be positive and do what we can do in the field."
