    Script:

Day three of the BWF World Championships and fourth seeds Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa enjoyed a safe passage through to the last 16 in the men's doubles draw.

The Japanese pair have struggled to find form in recent months but proved too strong for their German opponents Peter Kaesbauer and Josche Zurwonne, coming through 21-11, 21-12.

China's second seed Wang Shixian also won through to the last 16 in the women's singles.

Her eagerly anticipated match against Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong was full of long, punishing points and Wang was forced to battle hard for the 21-15, 21-18 victory, with match point proving to be one of the best rallies of the tournament so far.

Long-established duo Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen enjoyed the support of the home crowd as they continued their quest for gold.

The Danes breezed past the Singaporean opponents in just over half an hour on court, 21-8, 21-16.

Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei, the top seed, saw off the challenge of Germany's Dieter Domke in two games - 21-12, 21-9 - to reach the round of 16 in the singles draw.

And in the women's singles, European champion Carolina Marin overcame a nasty fall in the deciding game to defeat Tee Jing Yi of Malaysia.

The Spanish ninth seed, faced spirited resistance from Tee but prevailed 21-10 in the decider to book her place in the round of 16.
