  • Intro:

QPR manager Harry Redknapp has come out in defence of Malky Mackay over the allegations that he sent text that were "disrespectful of other cultures" at a news conference in London, England on Friday. Whilst not condoning what Mackay may have done Redknapp said that he was a "great lad" who had made a big mistake.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Harry Redknapp, QPR manager (On whether Mackay can return to management in the future)

"Yeah in time yeah. It's going to take time. It's going to take time. "People get second chances in life who have committed bad crimes - he has made a mistake but we aren't going to hang him for it are we? Given time his life's got to go on and hopefully he'll learn from what he's done. The silly mistakes he's made and they are silly mistakes. Lot's of people do that silly Twittering or Tweeting or whatever you call it. I'm lucky I don't send text messages to often but I do get text messages from people with sick jokes on when something terrible has happened or someone loses their life and before you know it someone has sent you a silly text message with a joke. I don't read them, they make me ill. But it does happen he's not the only one who does it because you get these silly messages on your phone and I'm sure everybody gets them from different people so...he's mad a big mistake the lad but he's a good person underneath all that and I hope he comes back. I can't feel how he must be suffering for the big mistake he's made at the moment."
