A trophy Serena has never won - the Southern & Western Open in Cincinnati.

The World No 1 faced Ana Ivanovic looking for her 62nd WTA title.

Yet the Serbian is back in form this year and looking for her third title of the season. The World No 9 with the early break and consolidating it here to make it 3-1.

Serena came back though and controlling Ivanovic from side to side took a to-love break to level at three all.

Some wonderful rallies followed and while Serena had the hitting power, the Serbian had the guile and put the American away here.

The World No 1 did take the first set 6-4 and the early second set exchanges looked ominous for Ivanovic with Serena's power off the return.

The Williams backhand was in fine tune and this here at 1-4 Williams was one of 26 winners in the match.

Serena served out the match taking the second 6-1 and with it her first win here in Cincinnati.
