Will Power closing in on maiden IndyCar title

Tuesday, August 19 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Pole-sitter Will Power fended off Juan Pablo Montoya to win Sunday (17 August) at the Milwaukee Mile, giving a huge boost to Team Penske's IndyCar season title bid.

    Script:

Coming into this IndyCar meeting in Wisconsin Will Power of Australia held a lead of just four points in the Series, that would be dramatically altered here.

The Australian led off from pole with closest rival Helio Castroneves in hot pursuit.

One of Power's closest rivals - Ryan Hunter-Reay - had to pull into the pits with mechanical problems & that was the end of his day.

Powering on, the Australian stayed in front for all of the race's entirety. Power was offered slight concern when team-mate Juan-Pablo Montoya closed to within 1.5 seconds close to the finish.

The Colombian couldn't close and finished in second, with Castroneves finishing a disappointing eleventh.

The Australian driver for Team Penske has finished second in three out of the previous four years and after this victory the Australian has two races remaining to claim that elusive title.

He now leads the series by 39 points with the race now moving to California for the penultimate race of the season.

A win in Sonoma for Power and he'll be almost over the finish line.
