Intro:
Inbee Park lifts the LPGA Championship trophy for the second successive year after beating overnight leader Brittany Lincicome in a play-off.
Script:
Lydia Ko went into the final round of the LPGA Championship on Sunday tied in fifth.
Even though she missed her par putt on the 17th hole, the 17-year-old Kiwi finished third with a eight-under 70.
If overnight leader Brittany Lincicome achieved the unthinkable and sunk this birdie at the par-five 14th, she'd be crowned LPGA champion...
But her effort fell just short. In the play-off, the 28-year-old American missed a six-foot par-putt on the par-four 18th.
Inbee Park also missed the green with her second shot but the 26-year-old chipped to three feet and sank the put to win.
The South Korean retains her New York title and bags the fifth major of her career.
Park was three shots back with seven to play at Monroe Golf Club before reeling Lincicome in and forcing a play-off.
The three-time major champion is projected to move up from third to second in the world.
