Jeffress claims Fiji title

  • Intro:

Australian golfer Steve Jeffress records the biggest win of his career by becoming the Fiji International champion.

    Script:

£108,000. That's how much was at stake in the final round of the Fiji International on Sunday.

Andrew Dodt made this birdie on the 13th before achieving a two-under 76, his best round in this year's Pacific Island tournament. The 28-year-old finished tied in third with fellow Australian Terry Pilkadaris.

Overnight leaders Steve Jeffress and Jake Higginbottom were locked level after 14 holes only for 20-year-old Higginbottom to drop a shot by hitting his tee shot into the hazard at the par-three hole.

The 2012 Riversdale Cup champion responded by pulling off the shot of the day when he rescued bogey with a remarkable chip on the 15th.

But the damage was done and Jeffress went on to card a two-under 70 to win the OneAsia and PGA Tour of Australasia event by four shots.

The victory moves him up to third on the OneAsia Order of Merit behind South Koreans Kim Seung-hyuk and Park Jun-won with five events remaining this year.
