  • Intro:

Krzysztof Kasprzak races with a torn knee ligament to win the Latvian FIM Speedway Grand Prix.

    Script:

Most wouldn't even consider taking part never mind winning if they had a torn cruciate knee ligament but speedway riders aren't like other sportsmen. Krzysztof Kasprzak did exactly that in the Riga Grand Prix.

He saw off Nicki Pedersen, Greg Hancock and Kenneth Bjerre in the final to move from eighth to fifth in the World Championship table.

    SOUNDBITE (English) Krzysztof Kasprzak:

"I'm trying to keep going now and (aiming for the) top eight. I would like to try and make the GP next season."

Kasprzak won two races to qualify for the final, Bjerre did the same, with Pedersen and Hancock claiming four. The meeting was actually held 140 miles away from the Latvian capital in Daugavpils because of recent bad weather.

The win caps a remarkable week for Kasprzak who became Polish champion, he credits his form to engine tuner Peter Johns. and he'll hope to continue it at a home GP in Gorzow next.
