Novak Djokovic crashed out of the Cincinnati Masters on Thursday while Stanislas Wawrinka and Andy Murray both fought back from losing the opening set.

    Script:

There was a shock in store in the third round of the men's singles at the Cincinnati Masters. Top seed Novak Djokovic was expected to ease past Tommy Robredo after winning the last six matches against his Spanish opponent.

But in a tight first set, it was Robredo who clinched it 8-6.

Djokovic struggled in response to falling a set behind and a double fault in the tenth game handed Robredo two match points, and although the Spaniard was unable to convert either of them, it was only a matter of time before he would close out the match.

Robredo created a third match point in his next return game and make no mistake - a clinical smash giving him the second win of his career over Djokovic 7-6 (6), 7-5.

No such problems for third seed Stanislas Wawrinka who faced Marin Cilic for a place in the quarter finals.

Like Djokovic, Wawrinka lost the first set his his Croatian opponent as Cilic took it 6-3 but the Swiss player rallied and levelled the match by taking the second set emphatically 6-0

    Wawrinka then cruised to a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win.

He will now face Julien Benneteau of France for a place in the final four.

Eighth seed Andy Murray then took on big serving John Isner and became another big name to make a slow start, and was edged out of the first set with Isner snatching it 7-6(3) on a tie break.

Murray did, however, claim the first break of serve of the game early in the second set which allowed him to push on and capture it 6-4.

Murray dug deep to fend off two match points before dominating the tie break - a poorly timed double fault from the American handing him a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-6 (2) win.
