  • Intro:

13th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France reached the final of the Rogers Cup with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria on Saturday (9th August).

Roger Federer beats Feliciano Lopez to set up a final against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Toronto.

    Script:

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga advanced to his first ATP Masters 1000 final for three years with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the Rogers Cup.

The Frenchman has already eliminated two former Rogers Cup winners in Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Tsonga was made to fight for the first set, he saved four break points while serving for the opener at 5-4 before finally securing the set 6-4.

He broke for a 2-1 lead in the second set and then again at 5-3 to win in an hour and 24 minutes.

Tsonga can now look forward to final against Roger Federer after he defeated Feliciano Lopez in Saturday's second semi-final.

Having dispatched Canadian Milos Raonic in the previous round, Lopez was looking for his second big scalp of the tournament.

But the Swiss second seed proved too good for the Spaniard and he took control from the start.

With his famous forehand working to good effect, Federer duly took the opening set 6-3 with a blistering half volley.

An early break in the second set then ensured that he was in command, before duely closing it out with an ace on match point to take it 6-3 6-4 win.
