Intro:
Venus Williams defeated her sister Serena 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup on Saturday (9th August).
Third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska beat Ekaterina Makarova 7-6 (1), 7-6 (3) to set up a final against Venus Williams.
Script:
The first semi-final of the Rogers Cup saw and all-Williams affair with Venus looking for her first victory over Serena since Dubai in 2009.
Serena spent her 200th week as world number 1 and leads the series against her sister 14-11, having won the last five encounters.
But unseeded Venus started strongly taking a 3-1 lead in the first set, but it wasn't enough as Serena came back and sealed the set with a tie break.
However, Venus did not let up and dominated the match from there on as her sister struggled with unforced errors.
The 34-year-old dropped serve only once in the match and clinched the second set 6-2 to tie the game.
The pattern continued in the third, Venus' serve too much for her sister as she sealed the match coming back from a set down 6-7 6-2 6-3.
She can now look forward to a final match-up against third seed Agnieszka Radwanska after she overcame Russian Ekaterina Makarova.
The Pole started strongly racing out to a 5-3 lead, but squandered several set points allowing Makarova back in.
Nevertheless, Radwanska steadied herself and eventually closed out the set in a dominant tie break.
The second set proved to be more of the same, again going to a tie break and again, the Pole held her nerves to come out on top and book a place in the final.
