IoW yacht race postponed

Monday, August 11 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Nick Elliot and Sam Davies discuss the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race in Cowes, Isle of Wight, being postponed until Monday due to inclement weather.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Nick Elliot, racing manager (On why the race was postponed):

"The sea state is going to be severe. We are seeing sustained winds of probably 40 plus knots and gusting 50 knots which is near a hurricane level of wind. Tomorrow it will have gone through slightly further the wind will have abated. Hopefully we'll be looking at 25-30 knots which is much more manageable conditions for the boats. It means they can actually go faster many of them in those conditions."

SOUNDBITE (English) Sam Davies, SCA sailor (On the race being postponed):

"We all knew it was going to be really tough and a potentially dangerous so a bit of relief. For Libby and I we've already redone the weather and the strategy twice so that's another afternoon of work to prepare the next course so that changes everything once we are 24 hours ahead of ourselves."
