Mickelson expects McIlroy to be put under pressure

  • Intro:

Player reaction from Friday's (8th August) rain-affected second round of the US PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Phil Mickelson/ 4-under par for the day, 6-under for the tournament, on his first two rounds:

"It was a long day, but for me it was a good day. I fought hard, I didn't get off to the greatest start, was patient with the round. It came to me a little bit there in the middle. To shoot 4-under puts me in good position for the weekend. Obviously Rory is playing great golf. There's a lot of guys at 4, 5, 6, 7-under par right there. Out of that group somebody is going to get hot. I think that I have a hot round in me, too."

SOUNDBITE (English) Jim Furyk/ 3-under par for the day, 8-under for the tournament, on the course conditions and his play:

"The design of the golf course is severe, and I think what I've done really well to this point is to be real patient and I've really picked and chosen the spots where I could be aggressive. I've taken advantage of some short irons in my hand and made some putts. I think that's why I'm sitting in the position I am. Conditions will have to be soft again tomorrow. I can't imagine the course dries up that quick. I will have the same mindset, instead of feeling like I can fire at pins, I'm going to pick and choose those spots and stay as patient as I can."
