Heavy rain forced an early suspension of play in the second round of the US PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, putting tee times back 50 minutes. But the conditions didn't seem to bother world number one, Rory McIlroy.

"I scored well today. The golf wasn't quite as pretty as it was yesterday at times neither was the weather, obviously. Played well for the most part. Took advantage of some holes whenever we got the break in the weather like this. Scored really well. Some key up and downs to keep the momentum going in the round, so really happy with that."

SOUNDBITE (English) Rory McIlroy/ 4-under par for the day, 9-under for the tournament, on what is working well as of late:

"I feel, confidence-wise, I feel similar to what I did at the end of '12. I just know that I'm a better player than I was in '12. I'm better equipped mentally and physically to handle a stretch like this where you are in the lead for a lot of tournaments in the summer, every round and sort of playing with that lead. I'm more experienced and just better prepared to handle that."

SOUNDBITE (English) Ryan Palmer/ 1-under par for the day, 7-under for the tournament, on having a chance to win:

"It's awesome, it's great. You know, I've had a pretty good record when I've come into a situation like this at the top, towards the top, going in the weekend. So I've got that feeling inside going for me. Knowing that, I really feel I will be there come Sunday and I'll have a chance. That's all I'll ask for. It's nice to be up there now, but there's a lot of golf to be played. It's a matter of just staying patient with myself and keep attacking."
