Caddy crucial to lead - Westwood

  • Intro:

Lee Westwood praises his 'wise' caddy Billy Foster as he sets the early clubhouse target alongside American Kevin Chappell at the US PGA Championship in Kentucky. Rickie Fowler -- tied in 12th -- also reflects on the opening round at Valhalla.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Lee Westwood, 6-under (On the course and his play):

"It's playing a lot different to the Ryder Cup. It seems a lot softer. We played firmer there. They have changed a few greens, things like that. It's certainly very different to the PGA, when we were here in 2000. I only had three lots of nine holes, I tried not to do too much in the practice rounds, because it felt like it was the kind of golf course where it was just all there in front of you, and you just played it as you see it. There didn't really look to be too many tricks to it. Billy [Foster] obviously helps, he is a good caddy, he tells me when to play away from flags and which pins are sucker pins. That is what I did today. It was a good strategic round of golf.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rickie Fowler, 2-under (On today's play):

"Yeah, I'm pleased. Made a couple of rough swings out there, but all in all it was a good, solid start. Like I said, there's a lot of good things that come from today, but definitely some stuff I can improve on. I wouldn't say I would want to have my best first day coming out. I want to save it, not save it, but ultimately work to playing well over the weekend and see if we can get a good in tomorrow and put ourselves in position for Sunday."
