England will be forgiven for feeling a sense of relief on several fronts when they take to the field at Old Trafford on Thursday for the fourth Test against India.

That's if the weather improves. England were restricted to a light training session on a soggy outfield in Lancashire before retiring to the indoor nets on Wednesday.

Last time out at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire, Alastair Cook's side registered their first Test win in almost a year.

England then lost the second Test at Lord's in the current series against India but a dominant display last week saw them level the series at 1-1.

Captain Cook returned to form with 95 and 70 not out. James Anderson returned match figures of 7-77 to move to within 12 wickets of Ian Botham's record England wicket total of 383.

Anderson was found not guilty of abusing and pushing India's Ravindra Jadeja during the drawn first Test at Trent Bridge by the ICC. The row is set to cast a shadow over the fourth Test tomorrow.
