In less than a week, Beijing will celebrate six years since the start of of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Tourists still visit the iconic 'Bird's Nest' stadium and on Monday workers were dismantling a platform and cleaning up the field which was used for a rock concert at the weekend.

With a capacity of 100,000, the National Stadium staged the opening and closing ceremonies for the Beijing Games.

In the past five years, the stadium has seen some good times and bad, but now it is considered as the most prestigious venue for sports and entertainment events.

Beijing is now making a new bid - for the 2022 Winter Games.

The city hopes to become the first to stage both a Summer and Winter Olympics.

Beijing will compete against Oslo and the Kazakh city of Almaty on July 31st next year, when the IOC will elect the hosts for 2022 Games.

Beijing does not intend to build any new stadiums and hopes to 'recycle' the 2008 venues.

For example the National Indoor Stadium, which hosted gymnastics during 2008, will be the ice hockey venue or 2022.

Should Beijing be successful, the Bird's Nest will make history in becoming the only venue to staged the opening and closing ceremonies for both a summer and winter games.
