SOUNDBITE: (English) Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland:

"Scotland, I would think this year of all years, has demonstrated that it can host huge international events because the Ryder Cup, in television terms, is just as large as the Commonwealth Games. So we will target the great international events that we know we can achieve and do well, and it will give us that position."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland:

"The people who thought, and I saw one article, and it wasn't in the Mail - I think it was the Telegraph - suggesting that English athletes might be booed, and where on earth people get such notions, I've got absolutely no idea. There was never any doubt in my mind that the Scottish crowd would be passionately supporting Scotland, of course, but would be fair and encouraging to all nations."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland:

"The point we make is that we seek to be as hospitable and as welcoming as we possibly can do, and that means particularly to Games athletes. But there is nothing in the, you know, Sierra Leone is not in quarantine, and we've made the point that there's no travel ban to Sierra Leone. So we are sympathetic, we understand people's feelings, and of course we'll be as accommodating and sympathetic as we possibly can. But it should be remembered that there is no quarantine in Sierra Leone at the present moment."
