Three of the top four seeds were on court in the Citi Open second round in Washington on Wednesday.

Top seed Tomas Berdych enjoyed a comfortable win over home favourite Robby Ginepri.

The Czech's 6-1 6-4 victory against his Florida-born opponent sets up a clash with world number five Vasek Pospisil of Canada in the third round.

Japanese fourth seed Kei Nishikori survived a tricky encounter with Sam Querrey of the United States.

Having lost the opening set, Querrey fought back to force a deciding third set. But Nishikori prevailed to win 6-4 5-7 6-4. The 24-year-old now plays Lukas Lacko of Slovakia.

Second seed Milos Raonic overcame in-form American Jack Sock, edging two tie-breaks to move into round three.

Raonic came back from a break down in the second set to seal a 7-6 7-6 success.

The Canadian's reward is a tie against Lleyton Hewitt, who is unbeaten in his last six matches.
