Bailey-Cole secures 100m gold medal at Commonwealth

    Late action from day five of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

    Script:

    Athletics took centre stage on Tuesday with the men and women's 100m finals taking place at Hampden Park.

    The women's saw Blessing Okgbare power to the gold setting a new Commonwealth record in the process.

    The Nigerian claimed the prize ahead of Jamaicans Campbell-Brown and Kerron Stewart.

    In the men's 100m, the absence of Usain Bolt and Yohann Blake meant it was the turn of Kemar Bailey-Cole.

    He secured gold ahead of England's Adam Gemili and Nickel Ashmeade of Jamaica.

    Australia continued to put on a strong show in the pool .

    The Aussies first completed a superb podium clean sweep in the men's 200m backstroke with Mitch Larkin taking the gold medal.

    The women were not be undone however, and in the 100m freestyle also secured all the podium places. Cate Campbell leading the way with a new Games record.

    Her younger sister Bronte took second and Emma McKeon third.

    The women's 800m freestyle produced anoter Commonwealth record and a first swimming gold for Wales in 40 years thanks to Jazz Carlin.
